Driving while hauling a trailer can be incredibly stressful, especially for people who are just getting started. To help you in your journey we have compiled a short list of good habits you should implement while trailering.
Stopping distance:
Depending on the load you are trailering you should be giving yourself plenty of distance for stopping.
Completing a 'Walk Around'
This seems like a silly task, but it will be one of your most crucial while trailering. When you stop for gas or after you're done loading your trailer walk around it and inspect. This can prevent headaches down the road if you can spot an issue before it becomes a catastrophe.
Keeping up with basic maintenance
When was the last time you greased your bearings? If you can't remember its probably time to do it or take it to a shop to have it done. Getting a basic safety check can let you know your trailer is in good shape and ready to roll when you need it. Breaking down on a highway is never fun, get your trailer checked out and serviced.
Be aware of your surroundings
Most drivers do not understand what its like to trailer, be aware of your blindspots when merging.
